Stripping and sanding galore!

After thinking more about the fact that I need to rebed the middle portlight flange, I just decided to strip all the paint off the cabin side, then sand the crap out of it to fair it out (it was really goopy looking from the filler compound used to make the fillet at the corners). Then I spend a couple of days soaking the bare wood with 'boat sauce' (a mix of tung oil, linseed oil and turpentine). I am hoping that giving the wood lots of oils back will lessen the checking in the wood. Here is the post stripped cabin side, the top and bottom are mostly filler and I waited for the sander to get that. Starting to get messy...

Now it's getting messy. After a couple of hours with the sander, I got things pretty fair. It's not perfect, but it is a big improvement. I could have done better if I also mixed up my own little back of lightweight filler and added material to fair it out more, but I have a big opposition to adding more epoxy to the boat.

Here I am, all messy. It was hot, and sweat + lots of dust made me really nasty. I jumped off the end of the dock after I was done.

Looking nasty in the mask...
